Moda Italia 2011 Sicily, the island of vineyards

Sicily is a pleasure for tourists. In its limited scope can watch the snow-capped Mount Etna, contemplate cornfields and orange, to be seduced by its beautiful hills and enjoy the warm waters of the Mediterranean.
tured terrain can play with multiple orientations in a vineyard that has been taking root probably since well before the erection of those beautiful Greek temples that today are one of the major attractions of the island.
geographic diversity is staggering and this gives wings to the wine. They are showing a little over 20 years leading a number of processors that have more than enough arguments for the aficionado will look beyond Piedmont and Tuscany
Sicilian vineyard surface, of course, is much like sum of these two dedicated regions of Italy, but, like that has happened in many English regions, the image was associated with the quantity rather than quality, and great traditional wines were sweet.
Moscato di Pantelleria addition of Malvasia delle Lipari and was the marsala which took further the fame of Sicilian wines. Like most historic wines of Southern Europe (port, madeira, sherry) is a fortified product that has been relegated to the background by the overwhelming fashion of table wine (especially red), more in tune with the rhythm current life that a high degree drink to extend the desktop.
Great producer.
With 200,000 hectares of vineyards, is one of the regions most important Italian wine.
• Mediterranean Landscape. Life scenario of vines and olive trees, its relief and slightly hilly with lots of hills, poor soil, low rainfall and long warm summers set purely Mediterranean wines.
• Wine Revolution. If your wine industry used to rely primarily on the amount, the decade of the eighties of the twentieth century illuminates the birth of producers committed to quality not necessarily work under the umbrella of designations of origin,
• Variety. The star Sicilian red wines is without doubt the nero d'Avola, which can be vinified as a single varietal or in the company of foreign varieties. As with most Italian regions, the heritage of indigenous grapes is particularly rich. Other red grapes: Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Capucci Frappat, Fiano, Aglianico. White grapes: Catarratto, Inzolia, cricket, Moscato di Pantelleria, Malvasia. Large presence of foreign grapes: cabernet sauvignon, merlot, syrah, chardonnay.
